Eric L. Meyerowitz, principal of ELM Architect, specializes in custom residential and commercial projects. His portfolio includes new construction, additions and adaptive reuse for existing structures. Select projects have been published in major publications including Architectural Digest, San Francisco Chronicle and California Homes.

Eric opened his private practice in the fall of 2002. His process involves working closely with each client from the initial design stages through the completion of construction. With the assistance of various professional design consultants, Eric offers comprehensive architectural services for every project.

In 1994, Eric began his professional career as a Project Manager for Hablinski Architecture in Beverly Hills, California. His primary responsibilities included the design and construction administration of a contemporary estate in Beverly Park, Los Angeles.

Eric joined Appleton & Associates in 1996, where he oversaw multiple residential and commercial projects. Some of the significant buildings included the McEvoy Ranch Olive Oil Production Facility and Pavilion in Petaluma, California, Meadow Farms, an estate and equestrian center in Hope Ranch, California and a new estate in Pasadena, California. While collaborating with Marc Appleton, Eric became well versed in the vernacular and traditional building styles popular today.

Eric received a masters of architecture degree from the University of Oregon and a bachelor of science degree in Design from the University of California, Davis. Throughout his education, architects Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn, John Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright inspired his personal style.

Design work is influenced by various site conditions including, but not limited to, contextual compatibility and solar orientation, building system integration, construction materials and methods and specific project programs. Eric approaches each project without preconceptions and avoids a repetitive design expression. Beyond the elementary necessities of a structure, he believes that a successful building provides a framework for the client’s life and activities – a blank canvas ready to be painted.
